Cherry Blossoms (Sakura)

This video shows how to make origami cherry blossoms (sakura) from the bird base.  If you already know the bird base, you’ll be able to skip ahead in the video, but I show how to make the bird base (and the square base) just in case you need it.  Technically cherry blossoms have 5 petals, and these only have 4 petals.  If anyone knows how to make it with 5 petals, please let me know!  At the end of the video I show how to quickly modify these flowers so that you can attach them to a branch or twig to be used for decoration.

Materials:

  1. One square sheet of paper.  For the instructional video I used a 6 inch (~150 mm) square.  The smaller flowers attached to the branch were made with a 3 inch (~75 mm) square.
  2. Optional:  If you want to modify the flowers to have a pollen center and attach them to a twig or branch you will need the following:
    1. pipe cleaner
    2. stem tape (green or brown)
    3. multi-tool (needle-nose pliers with wire cutters)
    4. branch or twig

I got the idea from friend-site: mycraftthingies.  Check out her pictures… her arrangement is much nicer than mine!

p.s. i have made ALOT of these origamis from this website and its awesome!!!!!!

  • Glad to hear you're enjoying the site. Keep working on the petals… that's a tricky step, but practice will help. Also, don't feel like it needs to be perfect… every flower should be individual and unique.
