4 Point Star (ninja throwing star / shuriken)

This origam video shows how to make a 4 point star.  This is sometimes called a throwing star, ninja star or shuriken.  While these can be thrown, they should not be thrown at anything living… even though they are paper, they can hurt!

Materials:

  1. Two rectangular sheets.  The sheets should be twice as long as they are tall before folding
    1. The easiest way to get this measurement is to cut a square sheet in half to make a rectangle.  (I use my trusty Carl brand rotary paper cutter)
    2. In this video I use two $1 dollar bills.  Notice that the bills are not the proper dimensions so you must fold them off center when you make the first fold.
  2. You can use a paper clip or piece of fishing line to turn this into a hanging ornament / decoration.

Thank you for taking the time to post the money origami. I have wanted to fold paper since I was a young child and could never figure out how. You have given me faith that I can actually do it! I love my Ninja Star, thanks to you.

Do you know how to make Elmer Norvell's F 18 Hornet Fighting Jet? The video is on Youtube under thebigbluevan. I get so far and when he says repeat the first time I lose it. I have to see every step in order to achieve. That is why I love your videos, they go from beginning to end and you also explain what you are doing. I am hoping you will take on the F 18 Hornet so I can enjoy making one myself.

Again, thank you for your time. You are my hero!

  • Glad you've been inspired, Alejandro! I've enjoyed origami for a long time, and I'm happy to share it. As for your sword request… I'll put it on my list, but I don't actually know how to make a paper sword, so I'll have to do some research and come back to this. In the mean time, I hope you can enjoy the weekly updates.
