Rectangular Box with Lid

This video shows you how to make an origami box with a lid out of two sheets of paper. This fold makes a great gift box for small presents – I often use this instead of wrapping paper. It’s nice for adding a personal touch to a holiday gifts, a birthday present or anniversary gift… (the first year is paper guys). This box can be easily decorated with other origami.

– 2 sheets of paper (scrapbook paper works well because it’s usually a heavier weight paper and also it comes in large sizes)

– In this video I use 12” x 12” scrapbook paper. The final box comes out to be 3” x 3” x 6”
– dimensions will be N/4 x N/4 x N/2 where “N” is the original edge length of your paper

    • Ava, you can make this with any size square paper… if you use 6×6, it will of course be smaller, but still work. 🙂

    • which creases in particular? there are quite a few… let me know the minute:seconds that you get confused in the video, and I can try to help.

  1. 🙂 thank you for posting this! ive been looking for a nice origami box for sooo long!i found this website and i like it so much i subscribed to it! "(plus im only 12….and its still easy)

  2. love the box but is there a link for pdf instructions. am making boxes filled with money for christmas instead of gifts plus they have the lovely box for keeps.

    • No, sorry, I don't have printed instructions for most of these because of copyright issues. Your idea as using them as part of your Christmas gifts is great.

  3. I used this box a number of years ago as a project with children at our church…and I have been using ever since for everything from birthday gifts to just a simple thank you filled with homemade cookies. Thank you so much for this wonderful creation!
