With Christmas around the corner, I’d like to share some crafty tips on how to mash-up your origami to make some cool gift ideas or decorations. A while ago I madethis “lucky star” gift box. It has 14 lucky stars and a butterfly sewn around the lid. The top has an embroidered running stitch around the edge of the lid… oh and there’re the flowers on top with another butterfly attached. It took me hours to make this, and I poked myself with that needle more than a couple times… luckily I didn’t bleed on the box.

The size of these rectangular origami boxes are adjustable depending on your starting paper: – dimensions will be N/4 x N/4 x N/2 where “N” is the original edge length of your paper. This Christmas gift box is 2 x 2 x 4 inches because I started with two 8 x 8 inch squares. A necklace or watch would fit nicely in this 😉
